New: “Menemsha Inlet Creek”

Though it has been decades since we lived on Martha’s Vineyard, the scenery, structures and landscapes of the island are as clear in my mind now as they were then. Back then, when the summer crowds were gone, we used to drive up-Island to the more remote towns, one of which is Menemsha. The town is an old, and still active, fishing village that is also home to the Island’s Coast Guard station, and a long wooden walkway known as Dutcher Dock that ends at the mouth of the Menemsha Creek Inlet, and overlooks Cuttyhunk and the Elizabeth Islands. At the start of the dock, there are several old fishing shacks, built half on land, and half on stilts planted into the creek bottom, and look exactly as they must have over a century ago. “Menemsha Inlet Creek” 20 x 20 o/c
